Chrob ou Chauf Fountain

The Chrob ou Chouf fountain is located at the heart of the Medina near the Marrakech Museum and the Ben Youssef Medrassa. Built under the Saadian dynasty, the fountain was recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1985.

As Marrakech expanded, fountains provided essential drinking water for new neighborhoods transported via a complex system of underground passages from sources high in the Atlas Mountains. Today, all homes in Marrakech have running water, but the fountain remains an important social focus and provides an impressive reminder of the wealth and power of the previous generations that build the great city of Marrakech.

Chrob ou Chouf literally translates as ‘Drink and Look’ and, although we do advice you not to drink the water from the fountain, we do suggest you have a look!
